Three Huck Students Collect Grad School Awards

Two students from the intercollegiate graduate degree program in plant biology and one from ecology have been named among the recipients of prestigious 2020-21 Penn State Graduate School awards.

Plant Biology graduate students Megan Sylvia and Cassidy Cornblatt—as well as Ecology graduate student Sarah Isbell—will be honored with 2020-21 Graduate School awards.

Sylvia, who is jointly advised by Sally Assmann and Phil Bevilacqua, will receive the Intercollege Graduate Student Outreach Achievement Award. Cornblatt, a member of Gabriele Monshausen's lab, earned a Harold F. Martin Graduate Assistant Outstanding Teaching Award. Isbell, who studies under Jason Kaye and is also involved with the Huck's Microbiome Center, was named winner of a 2021 Alumni Association Dissertation Award.

"I am delighted to hear that several of our graduate students have received recognition with these prestigious awards," said Troy Ott, the Huck Institutes' Associate Director of Graduate Education. "Sarah, Cassidy and Megan are shining examples of Penn State’s vision of excellence in research, teaching and outreach and I commend them on their accomplishments."

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the 2021 awards ceremony will not be held in-person, but will instead be presented as a website that will be available for public viewing on April 2.
