Mechanism Based Therapies for Hemoglobin Disorders

April 4, 2024 @ 09:30 am to 10:30 am

Mitchell J. Weiss, Arthur Nienhuis Endowed Chair in Hematology, St. Jude Children’s Research Center

106 AVBS
University Park

Professor Weiss is being honored as one of this year’s Outstanding Science Alumni from the Eberly College of Science. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1980 from the Pennsylvania State University in Biophysics, which was a predecessor of our current Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He is a world leader in dissecting mechanisms of hemoglobin production and function, and he uses these mechanistic insights to drive a variety of strategies, including genome editing, to develop potential therapies for the disorders of hemoglobin. While his focus is on hemoglobin disorders, the strategies he will describe can be applied to a variety of systems and problems. We hope you can join us for this special seminar.
