Habitat loss, climate change, and nonnative species will significantly influence the distribution and population status of many species._ However, while models may predict population trajectory at a course scale, at smaller scales individual phenotypic plasticity and local habitat heterogeneity may result in cross-scale interactions that reduce model accuracy. My proposed research turns traditional wildlife management upside down; focusing not on populations, but rather how conservation of individual phenotypes may improve the long-term resiliency of an iconic fish species._
