Human-generated noise has profoundly altered natural soundscapes in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, imposing novel pressures on ecological patterns and processes. Despite interest in identifying the ecological consequences of these novel pressures, little is known about the impacts on wildlife population health and individual fitness. In this talk, I will share exciting results from recent experiments suggesting traffic noise causes physiological stress and impairs reproductive behavior in wood frogs, as well as discuss preliminary trends from an experiment exploring whether populations near noisy sites have adapted to noise stress over time
