Graduate Assistant – Community Engagement and Outreach

The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences (The Huck) seeks to hire a highly motivated, collaborative, and creative graduate assistant to join the NSF-funded Skilled Training in Administration and Institutional Research (STAIR) program in 2025-2026 academic year. This position plays a crucial role in enhancing the program's visibility, fostering relationships with stakeholders, and developing engaging content for both digital and print platforms. The GA will collaborate with the team to design and execute communications strategies that highlight our initiatives, events, and impact. These initiatives are aimed at professional research administrators, early career faculty, and students nationwide who are interested in careers in research administration. The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to join and be a respected member of a visionary leadership group committed to reimagining how we engage, train, and inspire future leaders in research administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and executing a comprehensive outreach and communications plan.
  • Create, edit, and manage content for website, social media, and other outreach materials.
  • Execute the communication and engagement strategy for STAIR events, such as the 2026 STAIR Summit, including planning, promotion, event execution, and post-event follow-up.
  • Support community engagement initiatives, including connecting with partners and facilitating communication.
  • Assist with photography, videography, and media production when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a graduate program at Penn State, with preference for fields such as communications, business- marketing, graphic design, digital multimedia design, digital arts, web design, education communication, organizational and professional communication, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with content creation, marketing, event planning, and social media management.
  • Experience (any level) in designing consumer-facing media products across various platforms (for training or curriculum dissemination preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Interest or experience in research administration or grant development is preferred but not required (this position will be well-positioned to gain experience and training in these areas).
  • Ideal for someone with a creative spark and passion for applying their knowledge and skills in a professional environment.

Position Details:

Time Commitment: 20 hours/week. Position is for 2025-2026 academic year.

Compensation: Grade 15 Penn State GA half-time stipend.
