Jennifer S. Thaler
Professor of Entomology, Cornell University

We hope you've had a productive summer! If you have brand-new results from the last year, or a poster you've presented at a recent meeting, then sign up to share your work at the Center for Chemical Ecology Welcome-Back Research Showcase on Friday, September 12 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm!

This event will showcase the ongoing research of our Center members in either poster or 3-minute flash talk format. If you have a poster you've presented at a conference in the last year but haven't had a chance to talk about it with Penn State colleagues, this is a great opportunity to make new connections! If you've got new results but not enough time to put together a poster, consider a 3-minute flash talk—a short, simple speech telling the story of your work and what you've found.

The student presentations will culminate in an invited guest speaker address from a giant in the field of chemical ecology, Dr. Jennifer Thaler from Cornell University. There will be a student lunch following her talk and meeting slots for faculty for the rest of the afternoon.

We welcome all chemical ecology-related research, irrespective of department!

Here is a schedule for Friday, September 12 (subject to change):

  • 9:30a-11:00a
118 Ag Science & Industry (ASI)
Poster and presentation session with coffee and light refreshments

Please reach out to Robert Witkowski (rpw5414@psu.edu) or Anju Poudel (abp5901@psu.edu) with any questions. We hope to see you there!

About the Guest Speaker:

Dr. Thaler studies the ecological interactions between plants, herbivores, and carnivores in wild and agricultural Solanaceous plant species. Her approach focuses on understanding behavioral and phytochemical mechanisms of such tri-trophic interactions, testing theory on the organization of multi-trophic communities, and generating novel strategies to control insect pests.
