Understanding and controlling the spread of diseases in the 21st century is_going to be a hugely data-intensive challenge. This challenge will depend_crucially on our ability to collect, parse, filter, mine and make sense of vast_amounts of data. Data Science - a term colloquially used to describe this_process - will help us turn the data deluge into new knowledge. The_challenges are enormous, but so is the potential of this newly emerging_field. At this workshop, hosted by the Center of Infectious Disease Dynamics _(CIDD) at Penn State University and organized by Marcel Salathe, the goal is to exchange ideas, discuss_future projects, and to learn from experiences of past successes (and_challenges) from key players in the field.
