Evolutionary principles provide a powerful framework for understanding and predicting how biological systems respond to changing environments and selective pressures. Applying evolutionary theory enables scientists to address pressing societal challenges, including biodiversity conservation, protection of endangered species, management of invasive organisms, control of emerging infectious and epizootic diseases, and the development of resilient agricultural systems. An evolutionary perspective is also essential for evaluating the consequences of introducing novel genetic traits through transgenic or genome-editing technologies. The Applied Evolution Symposium will highlight research demonstrating how evolutionary approaches can accelerate practical solutions to real-world problems. By emphasizing applications in agricultural resilience, biodiversity conservation, and human health, the symposium underscores evolution as both a foundational scientific discipline and a practical tool for informed decision-making.
