The NSF Grant Writing Process & Science Policy

Dr. Lisa Park-Boush's GWIS talk will focus on the NSF grant writing process and what makes a good/bad grant. She will also be talking about the science policy nexus and science funding in DC. _ Dr. Park is a Professor of Geography and the Director of the Center for Integrative Geosciences at the University of Connecticut. Prior to her appointment at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Park-Boush served as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation for three years and was a Professor of Geosciences at the University of Akron. The Park-Boush research group investigates biotic responses to paleoenvironmental change over multiple timescales. Specifically, her work utilizes rock sequences and lake deposits found in lakebeds to aid in paleoenvironmental reconstructions. Her lab also examines climatological and anthropogenically-driven environmental change and biological responses. For the past ten years, Dr. Park-Boush and her colleagues have reconstructed high-resolution records of hurricanes, climate, anthropogenic driven environmental change, and sea level rise in the Bahamas._ _ Cookies and coffee will be provided. _ This event is hosted by the Penn State Graduate Women in Science as part of the Inside the Scientist's Studio monthly seminar series.
