"Gap-Junction Mediated Antigen Transport and Microbial Immunopathogenesis: New Insights"

Ashlesh K. Murthy, M.B.B.S., Ph.D, trained as a physician in India (1998) and subsequently obtained his PhD in 2006 from the University of Texas, USA. After postdoctoral training, Murthy joined the faculty in the Department of Pathology, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Midwestern University, Downers Grove, IL in 2011. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2013, and received tenure in 2015. Over the last 15 years, Murthy has conducted research on various aspects of mucosal bacterial pathogenesis and vaccine development. His primary interest lies in the development of a vaccine against Chlamydia induced reproductive tract pathologies in women. Murthy has authored over 45 peer-reviewed publications, is an inventor on two US patents describing strategies for an anti-chlamydia vaccine, and maintains active extramural grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and American Heart Association. Murthy serves on several NIH study sections and as an academic editor of the journal PLOS One, as well as a peer reviewer for several reputed journals in the field of microbiology, immunology and pathogenesis. He has received several prestigious honors and awards including Scientist Development Grant by American Heart Association, Young Investigator Award by Society of Mucosal Immunology, and Junior Scientist Award in Immunology by American Scientists of Indian Origin. Murthy has recently been promoted and currently serves as the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Midwestern University, Glendale, AZ.
