Predators can have strong direct and indirect effects on their prey, and the presence of and interactions between multiple predators can influence the nature and strength of these effects. In Pennsylvania, there are three carnivores--black bears (Ursus americanus), coyotes (Canis latrans), and bobcats (Lynx rufus)--that can prey on white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) fawns. These three carnivores can also influence the space use and activity patterns of the others. My goal is to characterize how the habitat use, activity patterns, and interactions between these three carnivores influence the density and survival of white-tailed deer fawns in Pennsylvania.
