First rapid test for mpox developed, tech adaptable for other emerging diseases

The first rapid test for mpox, more commonly known as monkeypox, has been developed by a team of researchers led by Penn State. The selective molecular sensor can detect the virus within minutes. Current tests require health care providers to swab lesions and send the samples to labs to be tested, which can take several days.


New seed grant program will foster research collaborations with Minority Serving Institutions

The Penn State Inter-Institutional Partnerships for Diversifying Research (IPDR) program aims to ensure that the University’s inter-institutional research reflects the diversity of populations that could directly or indirectly benefit from its findings, making these discoveries more broadly applicable and impactful.


Donna Korzick leads training grant initiatives to new highs

Increasingly, the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences has made access to T32 training programs a priority, and since March 2021 has trusted Donna Korzick, professor of physiology and kinesiology, to oversee those efforts.


Grad Students in Huck Labs Win Awards for Innovative Research

Ian Hertzler and Mac Meyer, two graduate students working in the labs of Huck faculty, have been recognized as 2023 recipients of the Robert T. Simpson Graduate Student Award for Innovative Research.
