Mission
The mission of the Penn State Neuroscience Institute (PSNI) is to catalyze scholarship across molecular, cellular, systems, and computational, translational, cognitive, and behavioral neuroscience. The PSNI facilitates research and training excellence across questions related to the health and physiological flourishing of the brain, and brings together our diverse community of neuroscientists across all campuses to share ideas and opportunities.
The Penn State Neuroscience Institute strives to advance impactful, transformational science that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries. The Institute is committed to expanding research excellence both within the brain sciences and across related fields beyond the brain.
Strategic Plan
The Penn State Neuroscience Institute (PSNI) will continue its growth as a nationally recognized hub of interdisciplinary neuroscience, integrating fundamental, translational, and clinical research to improve brain-related animal and human health across the lifespan. Drawing inspiration from leading peer institutes, PSNI will build a unified and unique scientific community with the infrastructure, visibility, and collaborative energy required to tackle society’s most complex brain-related challenges.
The 2026-2031 strategic plan was developed by the PSNI University Park steering committee, with input from faculty across The Eberly College of Science, The College of Health and Human Development, The College of Engineering, The College of the Liberal Arts, The College of Agricultural Sciences, and The College of Medicine.
