Penn State College of Medicine is a key component of Penn State's interdisciplinary research enterprise, driving transformative discoveries from bench to bedside with the aim of improving human health today and for generations to come.

The Center for Medical Innovation is dedicated to "Empowering Innovation at Penn State College of Medicine for a Healthier Future." Our vision is to foster an environment that accelerates the development of innovative solutions for real-world health care challenges. This involves ensuring access to critical resources and capital, as well as actively engaging with internal collaborators and external partners.

Penn State's MRI is a catalyst for multidisciplinary education and innovations in materials.

Of particular significance is the recent creation of a direct interface with the life sciences in our newest interdisciplinary facility on campus, the Millennium Science Complex. With our capabilities in electronic materials and devices, functional polymers and nanoscience, materials synthesis and computation, Penn State is uniquely positioned to apply our materials research to critical challenges of the future in semiconductors, manufacturing, infrastructure, healthcare, and more.

It is our vision to apply both the depth and breadth of our collective expertise to engage in research without boundaries, and thereby to create a new generation of highly qualified graduates who can both communicate and innovate in a converging technological world.

The Learning Factoro Logo

The Learning Factory is a place where Penn State students, faculty, and staff–particularly those from Engineering although all are welcome–can “learn by doing”. We provide the equipment and training for visitors to have amazing hands-on learning experiences. Our new facility in the Engineering Design and Innovation building supports a vast array of activities, from metal and wood shop work to CNC embroidery, additive manufacturing, and blacksmithing.

Although our facility is provided by the University, nearly all of our support comes from private donors and our corporate partners. Their belief in the Learning Factory mission makes everything possible and allows us to provide world-class experiences to a wide variety of students. For example, since its inception, the Learning Factory has coordinated more than 3,000 client-sponsored capstone projects for 750+ different sponsors, and more than 15,000 engineering students.

Origin labs logo

OriginLabs encompasses roughly 7,000 square feet across three floors and allows users to design, prototype and test potential solutions for their startups or ideas. The well-appointed facilities give users access to a breadth of materials and methodologies for production, with dedicated lab spaces including benchworking, woodworking, metalworking, surfacing, welding, digital fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
