As Huck Director, I have the privilege of saying the first words of welcome to our incoming cohort of graduate students (this year, 61). If there is ever a time for soaring Churchillian rhetoric, this is it. Our students are embarking on a major journey, one that will change their lives forever. And, if they work it well, their journey will make the world better too.

The Huck Innovative & Transformational Seed (HITS) Fund fosters projects that are bold, have potential for high impact, and would transform our understanding or provide a solution to a pressing issue, if successful.

Benkovic Research Initiative

The Patricia and Stephen Benkovic Research Initiative is designed to support boldly innovative, high-risk proposals at the interface of chemistry and the life sciences that are too risky to attract traditional funding opportunities.

HUCK LEADERSHIP NEWS
Huck Leadership Fellows Program Launched

Professor of Statistics Nicole Lazar and Associate Professor of Anthropology Laura Weyrich have been selected as the first cohort of a new program that provides practical leadership experience to interested faculty members.

HGSAC Elects New Co-Chairs

The Huck Graduate Student Advisory Committee (HGSAC) has elected two new co-chairs for the 2022-23 academic year - Plant Biology student Alenka Hafner and Bioinformatics and Genomics student Corrine Smolen.

New director Ashley Shay and assistant research professor Sergei Koshkin have joined scientific director of metabolomics Andrew Patterson, along with two new state-of-the-art LC-MS instruments.

Penn State Team Wins Global Biodiversity Competition

A group of Penn Staters placed first in the Global Frog Discovery Challenge, a competition that attracted over 9,000 participants across more than 100 countries.

Applied Evolution Symposium

This Sept. 22 gathering will bring together researchers at Penn State interested in the topic of applied evolution to share ideas, build networks, and generate new conversations.

Regenerative Engineering Symposium

On Oct. 7, academic pioneers, clinicians, and industrial leaders will discuss how trans-disciplinary convergence will transform regenerative engineering research, workforce training, and patient care.
