The Penn State Center of Excellence in Industrial Biotechnology offers scholarship support for students interested in industrial biotechnology, ranging from biopharmaceutical manufacturing, to food biotechnology, to the production of bio-based chemicals. The scholarships are named in recognition of the generous gift from CSL Behring.

The two scholarships categories are:

CSL Behring Biotechnology Scholarship - $1,000

The CSL Behring Biotechnology Scholarships identify and encourage students in the early stages of exploration of careers in biotechnology. Their quest to learn more is shown through course selection, observational experiences in the Facility or training through the Facility’s bio-processing modules. Active participation in other student organizations or extracurricular activities is considered.

CSL Behring Innovation Scholarship - $2,000

The CSL Behring Innovation Scholarships are the highest recognition that the Center bestows on students. The recipients demonstrate a commitment to making a difference in industrial biotechnology through choosing a relevant major, participating in undergraduate research, volunteering in the CSL Behring Fermentation Facility or joining the Society for Industrial Biotechnology (SIB). Leadership in other student organizations or extracurricular activities is considered.

Half of the scholarship value is credited in Fall 2021 and half in Spring 2021. After receiving a brief update report, funds for the Spring semester are disbursed. Guidelines will be sent in November with a December 2021 deadline.
