The Center’s mission is to provide highly skilled professionals for the bioprocessing industry. While supporting our ongoing research mission, the Center will provide innovative educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, with an emphasis on hands-on learning in real-world project settings. It will also develop training programs for industry professionals and distance learners. Ultimately, the Center will provide the infrastructure for student, faculty, and industry collaboration.
I'm a senior studying biological engineering, with a focus on the food and biological processing option. I worked in the CSL Behring Fermentation Facility this summer. I learned about the upstream and downstream processes involved in fermentation. I gained experience with state-of-the-art equipment used in advanced labs in the industry. The amazing thing about this facility is that it has the ability to scale up fermentation processes, from as small as a shake flask to a volume of 300 liters.
