Curriculum

Trainees are required to complete 14 credits of courses.  Exceptions may be made upon successful petition to the Program Committee

Developmental Activities

Trainees are required to actively participate in all of the following:

  • Weekly CEGR meeting:
  • Monthly trainee meeting
    • All trainees meet once a month over lunch (provided) or dinner (provided) for about 90 minutes and choose format and topics for discussion. Some of the examples include 10 min oral presentations of research (with no visual aids) followed by Q & A and critique by the group. One of the trainees will be randomly asked to summarize the discussions to provide a perspective on what was understood from the general presentation. Other examples include lightning talks, chalk talks, review of recent literature (one slide per  paper) etc. This format will also be used for once-a semester ethics discussion.
  • Once per semester ethics discussion
    • A current topic will be chosen for discussion. Trainees will be assigned reading materials and asked to post three questions that raise ethical concerns prior to the meeting. One of the trainees (or invited guest) will moderate and lead the discussion.
  • Annual CEGR Retreat
  • Spend 2-4 weeks training at another institution.
    • Examples: Academic collaboration or Industry internship
  • A national or international scientific meeting in gene regulation
  • A grant writing workshop 
  • Complete Responsible Conduct of Research training and a 4-year refresher activity
