Instrumentation
Microscopes, flow cytometers and other equipment available at the Facility
Electron microscopes
- JEOL JSM 5400
- Allows users to perform conventional secondary electron imaging, backscatter electron imaging and cryo-SEM.
- JEOL JEM 1200 EXII
- Allows users to perform conventional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with thin-sectioned specimens, and other transmission electron microscopy with specimens prepared using other methods.
Flow Cytometers
- Coulter FC500
- Dual laser flow cytometer with detection of up to 5 colors of fluorescence. Users run samples with minimal help after initial training.
- BD Cytopeia Influx
- Triple-laser flow cytometer with high-speed cell sorting capabilities. Fluorescence detection with custom filter configurations.
- BD Fortessa LSRII
- Instrument delivers the optimal sensitivity and resolution required for multicolor analysis.
- Coulter XL-MCL
- Single-laser cytometer capable of rapid analysis of samples with up to four colors of fluorescence. With no knobs to tweak and no optics to align, this is the perfect answer to many flow cytometry needs.
- Bio-Rad Bio-Plex 200
- The Bio-Plex is a flow-based dual laser system for simultaneously identifying and quantitating up to 100 different analytes in a single biomolecular assay. The system detects and measures molecules bound to the surfaces of fluorescent microshperes, providing highly accurate, real-time digital analysis.
Fluorescence and Confocal Microscopes
- Olympus Fluoview 300
- Basic confocal laser scanning microscope requiring manual filter and laser set-ups; capable of highly sensitive and sophisticated multi-color imaging.
- Olympus Fluoview 1000
- Four laser confocal microscope uses auto-setup to install objectives, lasers and detectors for unique dye combinations. FRAP (with SIM scanning), FRET and spectral imaging are available.
- Olympus BX60 (digital scope)
- Wide-field microscope snaps high-resolution digital pictures using conventional manual filter cubes or more versatile automated filter wheels. Multi-color pictures can be super-imposed.
- Olympus BX61 (materials scope)
- Two configurations: a biological configuration (with automated 3-color plus DIC image collection) and a materials configuration (with polarization, darkfield and reflected brightfield light).
Accessory equipment
- Accessory equipment
- Equipment to assist in sample preparation: microtomes, microwave, tissue processor, etc.
