Services

Services performed by the Genomics Core Facility, University Park

Genetic analysis services

DNA sequencing - Sanger

  • Regular sequencing: standard plasmid and PCR products as well as large DNA services (including genomic)
  • High-throughput sequencing (96-well plate submissions). Please inquire as to the specifications for submitting plates before submitting them.

All sequencing requests must be made using the LIMS system at http://tanager.huck.psu.edu.  If you bring us DNA of less than 10kilobases by 9am, your sequence should typically be ready to download from http://tanager.huck.psu.edu by 5pm (however, 96-well plates are not guaranteed to be set up the same day we receive them, so results can take slightly longer).

Next generation DNA sequencing - SOLiD

  • Targeted resequencing
  • Whole genome resequencing
  • Chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP) analysis

Genotyping

Genemapping and SNP determination.

Quantitative Real-Time PCR

Quantification of DNA and RNA.

DNA extraction and storage

DNA synthesis

We can prepare oligos with lengths of 10 to 150 bases. Crude oligos are usually available within 24-48 hours (see the "Oligo" Announcements section at http://tanager.huck.psu.edu for latest estimates of turnaround times).

Other techniques

Please contact us if you are interested in any other techniques (e.g. rolling circle protocol, genomic sequencing). We will try to provide new services if requested.

Tours

Want to tour a facility at University Park, or arrange a tour for someone else?

The Huck Institutes’ facility directors are glad to assist with scheduled tours for potential faculty hires and student recruitment. However, due to the heavy workloads in our facilities, we must request that the tours be set up in advance. Most of our facility directors cannot accommodate “drop in” tours since they are working on time sensitive research projects for faculty.

Procedure for setting up facility tours

Contact the facility director to schedule the tour. We request a one week notice prior to the potential visit (earlier if possible). Or, if you prefer, you can contact Megan Matthews to make your arrangements.
