Millennium Science Complex
Penn State’s new Millennium Science Complex, a state-of-the art research facility, will become the gateway for interdisciplinary research between the Life Sciences and the Material Sciences’ faculty and students.
Update: The architects have provided an animation of the building process.
The new 275,000 square foot building, designed by Rafeal Viñoly Architects, is already under construction at East Campus on the lot between Bigler Road and Pollock Road. The building is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2011.
Three floors
- Ground level will house shared vibration sensitive programs and imaging facilities for both humans and animals. An underground tunnel will connect the west wing with the existing Life Sciences Building. The west wing will house:
- animal facilities
- infectious disease facilities
- typical life sciences labs
- flow cytometry facilities
- a neuroengineering suite
- Level two is life science research.
- Level three is the connecting point for the two buildings with a common café, mail room, and conference rooms.
Bringing together faculty
The Millennium Science Complex will bring together excellent faculty from Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, Physics and Medicine, currently housed in numerous locations across campus, for innovative, interdisciplinary research.
