How do I estimate how much time I need for an experiment?

It depends on the instrument.

For the benchtop cytometers (FC500 and XL)

A working estimate is 1 minute per sample after setup (which usually takes around 30minutes, depending on complexity). 50 individual tubes (cells at 1million per ml) can be run easily in 1 hour. We bill by rounding up to the nearest half hour. Grouping samples can save you money.

For imaging (FV300, FV1000, or either widefield microscope)

Usually, a setup can take 30-60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the sample. A reasonably high-resolution Nyquist limit z scan will take about 5 minutes. Collection of images is the only fee-related time. Once samples have been collected, they can be manipulated with imaging programs (such as Photoshop, ImagePro or Autoquant).
