Undergraduate wins ASPB Fellowship
Charles Mason, a student conducting research in Dr Surinder Chopra's lab, was one of just 15 students selected for a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship from the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB).
Reviewers were impressed with the quality of the winners' research projects, and with the commitment of the students and their mentors. Mason's project was entitled Heterologous biosynthesis of flavonoid metabolites and characterization of induction properties of a transcription factor in fungal challenged maize plants.
The $3000 fellowship aims to let students work full time on a research project for a 10-week period. It also provides some money to the mentor for lab supplies, a student membership in the American Society of Plant Biologists, and support to attend the society's annual meeting.
