Director's welcome
A few words of welcome from the chair of the Intercollege Graduate Degree Program in Physiology, Donna Korzick
Welcome to the Penn State Intercollege Graduate Degree Program in Physiology (IGDP)! This IGDP seeks to advance society’s understanding of how body systems work at all levels – molecular, cellular, tissues, organs – and apply that knowledge in order to reduce disease and improve the health of individuals.
Our multidisciplinary program enables students to pursue their interests in numerous areas of study: aging, cardiovascular, metabolic (obesity and diabetes), gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, neurological, reproductive and respiratory physiology. Investigators use a variety of disease models and approaches spanning cells to humans, and faculty hold primary appointments in many different departments. The IGDP also gives students the opportunity to study at one of two Penn State campuses: University Park (Penn State’s “main” campus) or Hershey (home of the Penn State College of Medicine and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center). Both locations boast outstanding research facilities where students receive excellent training in the fundamentals of physiology from world-class faculty and begin developing their own portfolio of innovative research.
I invite you to explore our Web site to learn more about the opportunities awaiting you in IGDP. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the program.
Sincerely,
Donna H. Korzick, PhD, Chair
