What's an intercollege graduate degree program?

A program that includes faculty from from more than one of Penn State's academic colleges. Students in the program are typically based in several departments, and even on different campuses.

An intercollege graduate degree program (IGDP for short) typically includes faculty from several departments in two or more colleges. Courses offered by the program reflect this academic diversity, and help students see the links between different fields of science.

Program faculty have demonstrated academic background and scholarship in areas covered by the program. Each IGDP has a Program Chair (or two co-Chairs), a faculty member who reports to the Dean of the Graduate School about the program.

Several of the IGDPs supported by the Huck Institutes involve faculty from colleges on the University Park campus, and from faculty based at the Hershey College of Medicine. Students in these programs are typically based at one or other of these campuses. Depending on the program, students based at the Hershey College of Medicine may be required to take a slightly different set of course from those based at the University Park campus.
