Professional meeting travel award
Purpose: to encourage and facilitate presentation of original research findings at scientific meetings by graduate students in the Intercollege Graduate Degree Program in Ecology.
Award amount
Maximum of $200 per student to help defray travel costs to a national or international scientific meeting.
Award frequency
An award each may be given to a student presenting a scientific paper in Spring (January-July) or in Fall (August-December). One award will be given per semester unless suitable applicants are not available.
Eligibility
- Must be officially enrolled for credits as a MS or PhD student in the IGDP in Ecology during either the semester in which the paper is presented or the semester immediately prior to the presentation.
- Must give an oral presentation, not a poster presentation, at a national or international meeting.
- Must be the senior author of the oral presentation.
- Must base the presentation on original ecological research conducted in partial fulfillment of the MS or PhD degree in Ecology at Penn State.
Consideration for the award
Submit the following to the Program Chair on or before April 15 to be eligible for the Spring award and on or before August 15 to be eligible for the Fall award:
- A cover page with title of presentation; author(s) name; location and date of scientific meeting; statement on how award will be spent (e.g., lodging, vehicle rental); and signature of your Ecology research advisor endorsing your presentation.
- An abstract page with objective, methodology, results, and conclusions limited to one page, single-spaced; should be an informative abstract. The abstracts will be reviewed and ranked by an ad hoc committee (3 person). If given an award, the student should contact the Program Coordinator upon return from the meeting to arrange reimbursement of the travel award.
