Introduces users to commonly used proteomics techniques and providing basic skills that can be applied in your research projects.

Proteomics and Mass Spectrometry Core Facility is sponsoring a week-long Proteomics workshop aimed at introducing users to commonly used proteomics techniques and basic skills which can be incorporate into your research projects. 

Techniques covered

  • 2D Gel Electrophoresis
  • image analysis
  • automated spot cutting
  • in-gel digestion
  • MALDI-TOF analysis
  • 1D and 2D nanoLC-MS/MS analysis
  • protein database searching

Enrollment

  • Enrollment is limited to 6 people.
  • If space is not available in this workshop, you may ask to be included in the waiting list for upcoming workshops which are planned to be held quarterly.

Fees

  • The fee for the workshop is $500 per person
  • payable by IDCC (credited to 430-46 1001J, send to user ID: qub8)

Schedule

  • Following schedule is tentative.
  • Workshops run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.

Day 1 - Mon Aug 3, 2009

  • Background Lecture
  • Biological Mass Spectrometry
  • Sample Preparation for 2D-GE

Day 2 - Tues Aug 4, 2009

  • First dimension of 2D-GE, Isoelectric Focusing (IEF)
  • Protein MW determination by LC-MS

Day 3 - Wed Aug 5, 2009

  • Second dimension of 2D-GE, SDS-PAGE
  • Gel staining
  • Scanning with densitometer and laser scanner
  • Image Analysis by PDQuest

Day 4 - Thurs Aug 6, 2009

  • Automated spot cutting
  • In-gel digestion

Day 5 - Fri Aug 7, 2009

  • Peptide Mass Fingerprinting by MALDI-TOF
  • Protein analysis by nanoLC-MS/MS and identification by protein database search
