Budgetary policy

The Director of the Huck Institutes will develop the Annual Budget, in consultation with the Senior VP for Research, for the approval of the Executive Committee.

Specific funding policies:

  1. Huck Institutes equipment matching funds will be offered only for items that serve the life sciences community widely.
  2. The same general criterion of benefit to the life sciences enterprise at Penn State will be used to judge the appropriateness of other expenditures. In general, expenditures that benefit the largest group of individuals possible will be favored, although efforts will be made to encourage risk-taking and innovativeness in individual cases, even if the benefit accrues to a smaller subset of the life sciences community.
  3. Huck Institutes funds will be used to provide matching funds for new faculty (salaries and start-up) in areas relevant to the life sciences (broadly defined).
