New MRI capabilities

The Huck Institutes is one of several Penn State bodies that supported the purchase of two Siemens 3 Tesla whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems: one for the University Park campus and one for the College of Medicine.

Researchers on both campuses will now be able to perform non-invasive structural and functional imaging of people, animals, and materials. Having the same imaging capabilities available on two campuses will assist collaboration between geographically separate scientists and help researchers to link basic science with clinical applications.

The new imaging technology on the University Park campus will enhance the imaging capabilities in the Magnetic Resonance Center. It will also complement instrumentation available in the Human Electrophysiology Facility, the Center for Neural Engineering, and the planned Virtual Reality Laboratory for the Social Sciences. The system will be located in Moore Building and is expected to be operational in summer 2008.
