Dr. Peters to present at NIH lecture series

Dr. Jeffrey M. Peters, Professor in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, was selected to give a lecture for The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director's Wednesday Afternoon Lectures Series (WALS) on March 11, 2009. Dr. Peters presentation focused on the potential of targeting peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) for the treatment and prevention of diseases. The WALS comprises weekly scientific talks by some of the world's top researchers in the biomedical sciences.

Previous speakers who have presented the WALS include Nobel Prize Laureates and members of the National Academy of Science. This is a highly prestigious lecture series and reflects the outstanding contributions from Dr. Peters' research and his recognition as one of the best scientists at the national and international levels.

The lectures are held in the main auditorium on the NIH main campus and are viewable live on the web and also on videotape at the NIH Library.

The WALS is intended for advanced students and practitioners in biomedical fields, healthcare professionals, and doctoral-level scientists who seek to update and broaden their understanding of contemporary biomedical research. Importantly, Dr. Peters is the first faculty member from The Pennsylvania State University who has been selected for this honor.
